Film is alive! - part I

Last Friday I was part of a jury who had to select the 10 best series of the Fotomaraton.

It was a tough job, considering the fact that we had to choose the best serie, not one photo only. So, even though one made a stunning photo, if the average was below par, this person will not win a price.

I do believe it is hard to create a very good serie of 24 images of 24 topics in 12 hours. If you’re to specialized, you will not manage. This you often see also with weddings. Everyone can shoot some nice photos during a wedding, but to make a whole serie which is good, that is the tough part of wedding photography!

Although I will not discuss here, why one won and the other not, it was nice to see, that the one who won shot with film. One roll of film, that is. In other words, with only 24 pictures taken, (s)he had the best serie. Better then those with digital, who could try over and over again.

This phenomen you see a lot since digital became so well embraced. People shoot more, but tend to think less during the shot, after all, you can always fix it in Photoshop (duh! Not!). With film, you must know what you’re doing, you must think on location to get it right…

And, this contest showed us, that film isn’t dead yet. Mark my words, it will come back!

Trash The Dress goes Down Under!

After being very successful in the USA, TTD came also to Europe: this summer Milos Horvat and I had the biggest Trash The Dress party ever held on this continent. Some results can be seen here.

And now finally, TTD goes Down Under: check out great work from our Australian colleques: Trash The Dress Australia!
