In wedding photography there are two styles: traditional portraiture and wedding journalism. Traditional wedding photography are posed pictures, as we know it already from our grandparents and parents: standing stiff, looking into the camera, sometimes still done inside a studio. Wedding journalism is about capturing the moments without interfering, no posing at all, just documenting the wedding as it is.
Pure wedding journalism is unknown here in Croatia. The most photographers are still (very) traditional: even the first dance will be posed (!), as well as signing the papers and a posed photo with every uncle, tetka and far acquaintance. Sadly this often results that wedding albums look all the same, just the bride and groom look different…
My style of photography is about 20% traditional and 80% journalism. Of course I will make ‘posed’ portraits of the bride and groom. Of course I will take group pictures with the closest family, kumovi and best friends. Of course I will take a picture of the whole group. This has to be.
But for the rest I try not to interfere, I catch the moments as they actually happen, which will contain for more romance, emotion and humour than the re-created or posed image. By photographing this way I capture truly your wedding as it goes and therefore every wedding album will be unique and different.
Think of this when you choose your photographer, think of what style you want and keep in mind that your wedding is a unique one!
