When I started my business in Croatia two years ago, I was quite innovative with my wording, despite my lack of the Croatian language. However, the slogans and / or phrases I used where heavily copied by other studios. That’s why I started to brand myself in the English language.
But, I am not only the one with this problem. If you look at the better photographers in town, you see that their style is being copied. Their marketing is being copied. This happens a lot in Croatia, not only within photography. Marketing is sadly too much copy / paste and creativity is hard to find in this line of business.
Today I read on a forum a complaint of another photographer about the same issue and Jen Bebb (yeah indeed, one of the best in the world) said following:
"I don't have real advice to give you. A good friend of mine gave me some excellent advice. He said that every marketing race is a two horse race (look at Coke and Pepsi and then all the other colas - only two really stand out). By copying what you do, that other studio has resigned themselves to second place and will always be one step behind you."
And she is right. Let them copy. This make them always one step behind! Knowing this, I am hereby announcing my new slogan:
Unconventional & Unique Nekonvencionalan & Jedinstven
